Mount Hood Sunset

by Kevin McNeal

This image is from another spot in the Hood Valley in Oregon which another photographer friend; Zack Schnepf scouted over the weekend for fresh perspectives of the orchards and Mount Hood. Once we saw this place we knew we had a great place.
Equipment: Canon 5D 17-40L

I am honoured to be the first to comment on your amazing picture ! Details below ;) .

Your picture, if anything, is amazing because of the region it depicts. Because of all the things we can see – trees, fields, houses, elevation (hills and mountains), and the type of light, we are given a portrait of a certain part of the world, which some pictures don’t depict – not that it’s bad that they don’t.

The light is very good, it’s actually excellent. The consistency in its pattern is amazing. If you look in the sky you see it’s pink to the right and becomes darker blue as it goes to the left. This pattern is repeated throughout the picture which makes all elements united together in a marvelous way.

The last thing I admire is the peace of the area, its inherent quietness reflected in the immobile mount Hood, the standing trees, the motion-less wind machine and the aligned plantations. In that sense you really captured a unique instant of silence and peace – I really like it. Excellent work !

Yes, the pattern formed by the saplings and the furrows is amazing, specially accentuated by the vantage point you chose. I also like the very light high key green of the plants (probably accentuated PP).
The ideal compliment of green and magenta of the sky is good.
I also like the magenta that is picked up by the flora in the Middle part of the orchard, It divides the scene into definite zones of color.
I am distracted by the highlight seen through the gaps between the conifers on the left though.

Very nice shot the pattern and symmetry is very capturing. The background just compliments the whole picture. Nice shot

I like the deepness of the shot, there is good balance in volumes but the lights is not matching for the upper half and the bottom half.

Very nice. Warm light and good colors. I think I would have cloned out the poles on the right.

Stunningly beautiful scene! Crisp clear details through out the whole of this image as well, not an easy task.

I recognized the area immediately, but have never seen it portrayed this beautifully. You’ve painted a lovely scene with light.

I assume a pretty heavy dodge on the foreground. The total is lovely, but it stretches my sense of believability.

As for digitally removing the pole: it makes sense to me in a non-journalistic context, but in all these manners it pushes the question — When have we gone from a depiction to a portrayal?
