Whitby Beach

by Paul Freeman

On holiday at Whitby and finally managed to get out by myself with the camera as my girlfriend was tired! The sun was beginning to set so I went for a walk on the beach and took this photo. The water and the patterns on the beach caught my eye; I was also lucky that there were people walking on the beach to give the image scale.

Although the people give scale, it would be quite impacting without them because the sky, sea and foreground would all merge into one giving a surreal effect.

It looks like it was photoshoped a little, was it? Either way amazing photo!

What a glorious photo. I like the way you have framed it and the exposure for that time of the day looks perfect. It would make a great poster. Regards from Terry.

Is it HDR, or a combination of multiple bracketed exposures?
It seems you have spent a lot of time tweaking this up PP. Does give it a most unusual painterly look, though a bit unnatural but still pleasing to the eye, specially with that face like feature towards the right side. Kind of an eerie feel to the whole shot, what with the reflection of the sky being brighter than the sky itself! – Would love to have your feedback.

Very nice shot, although it looks surreal it is still a very nice shot.

One of the best on Earth Shots for a long time! Beautiful scene, the colours tones and details are excellent.

I live in Whitby and have never seen this part of the beach looking like this except in paintings, which is what this looks like. You obviously have some excellent post processing skills. Congratulations on a great looking image. Frank Meadow Sutcliffe would have been proud.

This is an amazing photograph. I love everything about it. It is one of my favorites so far! It reminds me of an old oil painting. Congratulations!

Great shot, though it doesn’t look like a photograph.
I love that deep blue on the rocks, but that too looks almost unnatural.
