This sea slug, Cuthona caerulea, is one of my favorite because of these wonderful colors.

Hi, I’m a marine biology student in France, and I’m actually working on sharks. I’m professional diver, and I really love underwater photography, in scuba diving and in freediving.

This is a really great photograph! I love the individual colours! The blackness behind the slug is intriguing as well!

Wonderful Lighting. Thomas, do you do significant amount of Post-processing? or is this spotlighting effect done while shooting?

  5. Thomas Vignaud Says:

    Hi and Thanks,
Anurag, There is almost no postpro exept croping (this is between 10 and 15mm long)
You have imagine here is another part of the red algae up, where was my strobe. the lighting was partially absorbed by the algae in some part of the photo (dark parts) but not on the sea slug.
And, sea slugs usually have a very reflecting white body as here, so we often had this kind of effect when they are on dark things like here : if I wanted the algae to be well exposed, the sea slug would be too much (and is already a bit too much in some parts actually).

This beautiful creature needs a better name than slug, or we need to redefine slug because of this magnificent color.
