Blizzard Sunset
by Holly Cawfield
On a blustery afternoon I was out with my camera driving along a country road when I suddenly drove right into a 60 km. per hour blizzard. The snow was blinding but for a few brief moments the setting sun shone through the clouds and snow. I don’t ever recall seeing a sunset through a blizzard so it was a fine time to be out with the camera.

I have two favourite thoughts about photography. One is the true joy, and occasional frustration, of the unending prospect of learning something new. The second is ongoing discipline of training the eye to watch the light. It’s a marvel to me to see the way light affects even the most ordinary of subjects, creating a show either subtle or dramatic.

Great job having your camera at hand…I try to take it with me often for that very reason.
    Exciting image, well done.

  12. Selrak Says:

It’s a great shot. It even looks like the sun’s light is carried and blown away to the left by the blizzard. The thin, black figures of the trees, planted in the fog or the layer of running snow just above the ground, seem to be admiring the scene you captured with te same admiration that I have. Wonderful !

  13. Jacob Maentz Jacob Maentz Says:

Beautiful lighting, well done. Great photographers must always endure the elements, but look at the result. Beautiful.

Amazing! I love how the fog overwhelms the bottom halves of the small trees. The contrast of the small and tall trees is great as well!
