Beaming and Glowing
by Shawn Thompson
This image was shot about 30 minutes after sunset. I was walking the board walk and decided to walk down to the shore on the slippery ice covered rocks. I saw this interesting Ice formation and thought it made for a great foreground composition with the Lighthouse in the background.
Equipment: Pentax K10d - Pentax DA* 16-50mm

Growing up in Northern Minnesota I have always had a love for the outdoors.
I love all types of photography, but living so close to Lake Superior has really sparked my interest in landscape photography.

The pinks and blues reflecting on the ice make it look like a fantasy world. The pastel colors blend so peacefully from the sky to the water to the ice. I like how the light forms a bright star reflecting on the water. Beautiful!

Nice colors in the foreground. The starburst of the floodlight is pleasing.

Absolutely beautiful ! Nice pink and violet tones, shining water and reflections. I like the low point of view.

Shawn, this shot is a gift! I am away from my ocean for the winter and so homesick. This picture renews my spirit. It could have been taken in my neck of the woods. I love it.

interesting,, maybe it would be a good idea to state where the photo was taken. i hate it when photographers don’t state where it was taken,… Makes the picture a complete waste
Dennis

Thanks for all of the great compliments. I really appreciate them.
It wasn’t my intention to not say where this was taken.
It was shot in Canal Park – Duluth, MN on Lake Superior.

Colin–obviously this photo was taken somewhere cold, by the water… what else do you need to know, and how does knowing the exact location improve the shot?? Last I checked, this was a beautiful photograph, regardless of where it was taken.
Should the photographer also state what they were thinking when they took the photo? What time of day it was? The ambient temperature?
I just don’t understand how you could call this photograph a “complete waste” just because you don’t know where it is.
