Makes me feel cold just looking - must be a hard life during winter - even the trees seem to be struggling

  2. Chris Chris Says:

I am wondering how the photographer survived the 40 degrees below temperature! Some people will do anything for a good shot!!

  3. Lori Lori Says:

I see a lot of bison here just outside of Edmonton,Alberta, Canada. I have never seen one out in -40 degree weather! They all hide when the weather gets that cold around here in the winter. I have yet to get an incredible shot such as this with the bison here. Good Job!

  4. Katherine Lee Strassburg Says:

The cold blue light makes my nose hairs freeze! This evokes the epitome of a perfect winter day.

  5. Ahmed Sharif Says:

Dear Me!!……. I come from a country where it never snows…… 40 degrees below zero is absolutely unimaginable for me!!…. must’ve been hard work taking this shot!!

A photo that requires few words, it tells its own story of endurance and survival. An essential Earthshot.

This picture could have been taken yesterday or 150 years ago in the days of the old west. Great job.

  12. Ellie Ellie Says:

Well done! I agree about the half fallen tree…gives some more dimension to the image, lets your eye follow it down to the bison. Beautiful.

To all who left comments regarding my photo 40 below, THANKS!
I was a great deal warmer than the bison that day. My wife and I were taking a snow coach tour from West Yellowstone to Old Faithful, and the coach was heated. Although I will go the extra mile in weather to get a good photo, -40 degrees is way beyond that limit. When I saw this big bull, the mist and the raw sky, I had to get the driver to stop while I got out and took several shots. I have to say the bison was a great subject, as he didn’t budge until I was finished shooting, confirming that he was alive. Thanks again for the kind comments.
