The Land of Ghosts

by Peter Bowers

Paddler in the early morning mist. Leslie Frost wilderness area, Ontario, Canada. In the fall, when the nights are cool and the water in the lakes is still warm, you get alot of mist in the morning. On this morning it was 2 C. I convinced my wife to come paddling with me in the cold by making her coffee. This is an ancient mode of travel and we're often following the same paths that have been used for thousands of years.

Very nice and moody. I love the ominous wall of cloud up ahead, with just a hint of light coming from above.

Really exceptional shot. I really like the canopy created by the trees on either side and the way the conical shape thus formed plays off with that of the boat.

Very nice, moody and mysterious and the figure gives a sense of scale, emphasised by the portrait orientation. Good stuff.

I can almost feel the chill. You’ve not only captured a rare setting; you’ve framed it to present a certain mood. I like it a lot.

This is one of my most favourite images on here. The composition works really well and the mistiness makes for an atmosphere full of mood and intrigue.
