Stormy Seas

by Benjamin Mercer

Southwold Pier in Suffolk, UK at dawn after a winter storm was clearing. I haven't corrected for the distortion of the lens in this, as I feel the distorted pier adds to the drama of the shot and seems to fit in with the tattered clouds and streaks of the retreating wave.
Equipment: Canon 350D, Sigma 10-20mm, Cokin 121S grad

This is way cool. Nice lens action. I was born on the coast, so I really appreciate a dock with buildings. Nice shot. EZ

A very nice shot. I Like the super wide angle perspective. The shutter speed is perfect.

Thank you everyone for your kind comments :-)

As Reuben has said it was simply a matter of being in the right place at the right time… or the wrong place at the wrong time depending on how you feel about getting covered by icy cold waves ;-)

Both I and the camera got very wet taking this.

Ben, being in the right place at the right time to get the right shot is what it is all about…the combination of luck and skill is what makes it unique and that is what you have done.

love it… very very nice. I like the way you can really tell the water is moving, really brings you into the seen.

The dawn light has created drama in the clouds, the receding wave and slightly unusual colours all combine to make an attractive image. Your description and added feedback also adds interest. Just my personal opinion though , I prefer landscapes in landscape mode. Otherwise it is a very good shot. Congrats.

You were right, the distortion only contribute to this picture. Awsome shot!

This may have just become one of my favorite photos of all time……

I agree – the distortion really makes the image!
