besides being an impressive shot it also has a nice character the sky and the framing with the rest of the rock.

Full marks for ingenuity. A nice contemporary image, which has its place. To me it appears to have been overly contrived. Hardly an Earthshot.
Pauline Jones
All shots are contrived; every time you frame a picture for composition or ask someone to pose, you contrive the shot. That doesn’t disqualify it from being a really cool shot… like this one.
Marc
Re: All this negativity:
What Peter says about Paul tells you much more about Peter, than Paul.
Dean, 99.99% of us couldn’t “contrive” this shot. Celebrate your day on ES!
Terry Everson
You would have to be crazy, but a great photo just the same. Great exposure and composition considering the situation you were in.
BJ Berquist
How cool! When I first saw this shot as a thumbnail I thought I was looking down into swirling water. It’s still an optical illusion. Can a still photo give you motion sickness?! Thanks for vicariously giving us a thrill.
Eli Shams
A well named image… Specially when one think of the incomfortable position you certainly had !
Renee
Very great photo Dean! Looks like fun..and very scary at the same time!
David Doe
Nice shot dude!!
Ellie
Dean,
I finally had a chance to go to your website.
Your work is masterful and extraordinary. I’ve seen your POTD several times in the past year and enjoyed them all.
Ellie
Hey I just have to put in my two cents here.
EarthShots POTD is an honour to any photographer.
The sour grapes comments need not be said. I have notice d lately there is more and more of that. Chill.
Matt
Cool shot – I have a lot of respect for anyone who free climbs!
Peter
wooow, I love it. I prefer it over the B&W silhouette version.
I’m curios is it a HDR?
Ejla
Amazing situation and shot!
janet
sweet!!!

Great capture. Good colors, well-exposed and good composition.

Oh and Ellie, just my two cents … if people want to be sour grapes, they have the right to be so. I think being honest about a picture is better than just giving compliments for the sake of compliments! Just my thoughts of course.
Mike
Got to be crazy to do this stuff but very interesting pic. The clouds made me think that the sky was falling at first but if you tilt your vision 45 deg right there is someone looking down on the climbers

Intense! I think that you would have to be crazy to climb up there and take the shot, but great all the same. That is a beautiful colour in the sky!

Creepy about the face Mike! I see what you mean!
Chris Burney
Amazing cloud formation, a whirlpool in reverse creating an optical illusion. Is he falling in or out? Well captured moment in time.
Jacob Maentz
Beautiful action shot. Well captured and great composition!
Anurag
If its an HDR then how can one manage it while hanging from a cliff? (apropos Peter)
dean
Thanks everyone:-)
This is not an HDR, it is possible to do it though, by developing same image few times (-1,0,+1…)
sydney
