I Can See Forever
by Kevin McNeal
This was shot before sunrise as the water was unusually calm and the rocks beneath were showing off their colors. The sun was hitting the peaks which seemed to match the colors of some of the foreground rocks.
Location: Glacier National Park Two Medicine Lake

As all have said above - wonderful, excellent, beautiful. But I have some more detailed comments.

First of all, as you mentioned the color of the sun rising and reflecting on the peak does match some of the rocks and that is just great. But also the clouds have that deep rose tending towards red and violet. The shading of the sky is great - from light pink to clear blue. Some of the rock’s colors are very interesting in that they are unusual and therefore reveal either a curious mineral composition or that the water acts as a polarizing filter, or both - in either case, this picture is very original in that sense. And to go on with the water changing the colors, the reflection of the peak in the lake seems to have a more “true” color, in the sense that it doesn’t have the deep pink light on it - which is beautiful by the way. The color we see in the water seems to be more that of a rock. And the peak seems to be looking towards the sun as if it had expected it all night … last, there’s the beam of white light that runs across the top of the water and acts as a symmetry axis as it separates the peak from its reflection is the lake, that is absolutely mind-blowing to me. With the peak and its reflection and the rocks on the foreground, it gives an amazing structure to the picture (a visual structure that is, quite obviously). A great shot for all of that.

Beautiful photo! I have been to this spot for hikes and camping many times in the past, and I have never come close to taking a photo as nice as this one. I recognized it right off, and it truly encapsulates the dramatic scenery and natural beauty of Glacier National Park!

Hi Kevin, that is a very good shot. The water seems as if it were motionless. The colors of the stones are just great and even the peaks in the reflection are very sharp.

The foreground lead in with those beautifully coloured stones direct the eye to the focal point of the lovely light on the mountain. This is a stunning image, right place, right time and perfectly composed and presented. A very harmonious shot.

  19. Anurag Anurag Says:

Ooooooh! This is just fantastic. Exactly how a wide angle should be used. Would have been interesting to see what a polariser would have done to the shot.
My only nit - the mauve magenta pebble should have been right in line with the peak, pointing down, like the peak’s reflection. (in an ideal setting - not easily found in the real world)

  20. Albert @ ART OF PHOTOGRAPHY Says:

An unusual landscape with colourful reflections. Just like a painting.
