WOW, this is awsome…took my breath away when I saw your photo. This is amazing!!! You know them guys are hot. How much did your camera cost???
GREAT JOB!!!!!!!
maybe it would be a wise idea to tell people where and why firemen were facilitating a fire. Isn’t this kind of ironic???
If they were throwing petrol on a fire and are that close then they are showing a very bad example to any children and even adults that see this picture
I am disapointed in Earthshots for selecting this for the POTD - maybe the people who selected this picture should go and have a look through a burns ward at the local childrens hospital
That’s a smokin’ hot photo!
Why would how much his camera costs matter? and I don’t think this sets a bad example to anyone. Its a great photo, and Its not like its TELLING people to do that, they’re probably doing it for a training excersize or something.
Great capture.
Irony is that the picture is spectucular but in today’s day and age, just think about the pollution this has caused.
Great Shot and great choice. I am sure that you agree that this photo should be seen for what it is. I guess earth shots is a photography site not an example site for children. The colors in this photo are just great and the camera you have in just a great piece of equipment, I still have the previous model of that and it works wonders too.
I saw a thatched pub burn down once and it wasn’t half as spectacular as this. Congratulations to Earth Shots on their five hundred days of superb photos, may there be many more.
This is an amazing photo! Fantastic capture of the destructive nature of fire….and man’s obsession with it. Great job.
I am intruiged. NOT WHAT IT SEEMS. Please explain.
Woah! Very impressive yes indeed it may not be seem to be for children but if the firefighters did not know what would happen next do you think they would really be there? well done!
Also maybe Earthshots was going out for the 500 day!
A ” Cooking Hot Shot “…only thing missing are the Hotdogs! Knowing what controlled burns are is a very good way to show kids about fire and the do’s and don’ts. This is a awesome picture and you can be proud of it.
Great photo.
The reason I think they are throwing gas on the fire is to control it. Look at the size of the bonfire. If the burn wasn’t controlled it could easily collapse ot topple creating a dangerous situation.
amazing picture, the fire is breathtaking, and earthshots: congratulations with 500th picture
This is slightly depressing. I think that it is a great photo, but I don’t like the idea.
Hopefully they know what they’re doing ! But the picture is good, really good. What I really like is all the different shapes in the top flames that your imaginations turns into cool things like monsters and demons and frogs… and of course, man’s obsession with fire is a great thing in your picture too. Good work, very good work.
I honestly can’t see why firefighters would be throwing insignificant amounts of gas so close to a fire…
Considering the temperature at which gas ignites (very low) and the heat so close to such a large fire the changes that the fumes wouldn’t already be burning is very small. Plus, a fire that size really can’t be controlled by throwing a few gallons of gas at it.
With that size of a fire the only real way to control it is cooling the surrounding area and air that the fire breathes.
If someone really knows what is being done and the physics behind it, I’ll be glad to be corrected.
Not quite sure why they are doing that, but this image sure has a huge impact!
The shot has very good atmosphere. Great timing. (even with a point and shoot with all its shutter lag!) By far one of the best Earthshots.
Another example of - ” You do not need a fancy camera to get a great shot”
This is a VERY impressive shot …
Very interesting and unusual image.
The colour of the flames are nicely captured, but does not overpower the shot. The firemen are clearly visible, without too much detail, thus keeping the main focus on the flames.
I can see why EarthShots chose this as one of the winning pictures. To take a photo like this with such a pathetic camera shows true talent. Well done!
wow wow . but why they are doing this ?
Gasoline would ignite in their buckets from the fumes alone. The men would be on fire also. There is probably water or fuel oil or something not nearly so dangerous as gasoline in the buckets. Awesome photo though!
