Stormy Seas
by Benjamin Mercer
Southwold Pier in Suffolk, UK at dawn after a winter storm was clearing.
I haven’t corrected for the distortion of the lens in this, as I feel the distorted pier adds to the drama of the shot and seems to fit in with the tattered clouds and streaks of the retreating wave.
Equipment: Canon 350D, Sigma 10-20mm, Cokin 121S grad

Thank you everyone for your kind comments :-)

As Reuben has said it was simply a matter of being in the right place at the right time… or the wrong place at the wrong time depending on how you feel about getting covered by icy cold waves ;-)

Both I and the camera got very wet taking this.

  9. Renee Renee Says:

Very different! But it is a nice shot! well done!

  10. Chris Chris Says:

Ben, being in the right place at the right time to get the right shot is what it is all about…the combination of luck and skill is what makes it unique and that is what you have done.

  11. Lee Says:

love it… very very nice. I like the way you can really tell the water is moving, really brings you into the seen.

  12. Ann Says:

The dawn light has created drama in the clouds, the receding wave and slightly unusual colours all combine to make an attractive image. Your description and added feedback also adds interest. Just my personal opinion though , I prefer landscapes in landscape mode. Otherwise it is a very good shot. Congrats.
