The Last Rays

by Srirama Raja

Sunset on Ama Dablam. Dugla, Nepal I waited out one cold evening above the treeline at 4600m, (on our way to the Everest Base Camp), to take this picture. The River valley below us was completely covered by clouds. But these peak had clear skies. N 27.92339, E086.80564 try this location on Google Earth.

Hardship well rewarded.

With global warming progressing as it is that line of seperation between light and dark might soon be the sea shore!! (A La Waterworld)

I love rocky mountains. Here in Virginia we have Blue Ridge mountains but they are more of a hills than anything else. I remember being in Carpathian mountains long time ago and this shot reminded me that time. You can almost breath that crystal clear air by looking at this peak.

A great shot Srirama. Would you please let me know what kinds of filter did you use to take this shot?

I could never reach that summit, so I truly thank you for taking me there with your patient vision-catching skills. Quite nice…;)

Thank you for responding to the question! As someone pointed out before, it is really great when one gets in touch and responds. This is a gorgeous shot and I admire you for climbing to such great heights.

I didn’t use any filter for this shot. I actually tried with a CP, ( since it was the only filter I carried) but it didn’t come out as well as this one. You wait a long time for the correct moment and the light starts changing so fast that you don’t have a chance to experiment too much. I had to do some minor cleanup using Nikon Capture NX to get the correct color.
