Mosquito Emerging
by Matthew
A mosquito emerging from its pupa. The lifecycle of a mosquito consists of 4 main stages: The female lays her eggs in stagnant water; the eggs then hatch into larvae; after 1-2 weeks the larvae develop into pupae; finally, the adult mosquito emerges from the pupal case in only a few minutes and then flies off.
This species of mosquito tends to live and breed in urban surroundings. The mosquito is no more than 5mm in length... I took the image at about 4x magnification.
Equipment: Canon Eos 5D + MP-E65mm

I have been a keen photographer for just over three years now. I especially like wildlife and macro photography.

Amazing!!!!!! This is a wonder! The detail is impeccable! The blurb was an interesting note too. How did you get so seemingly (?) close? Great Work Matthew!

This is just amazing stuff. I am really impressed by your entreprise and your patience.
By the way the MP-65 is an awesome lense.
Hats OFF!!
Those 5mm creatures spread deadly diseases like Malaria, Dengue and Filariasis. Which cause hundereds of thousands of deaths in the tropical and equatorial regions.

Amazing … Very detailed. Too bad the Earthshots watermark ruins the reflection.

Thanks for the comments. It took quite a bit of planning to achieve this photo but it basically consisted of a lot of flash and making sure that I had the lowest possible angle to keep the reflection. I also had to do a lost of waiting around for the right moment!
