Dreamscape
by Greg Cope
Sunset, Natural Bridges State Beach, Santa Cruz California.
Greg Cope
I started landscape photography with a cheap film slr camera with the goal of bringing home views from my trips into the Sierra Nevada mountains. I was hooked from then on and posted many of my photos on a rudimentary website. In the last few years I've taken up digital, which I mainly shoot now, but I still have that cheap film slr which I use to shoot a role of fuji velvia every now and then. Over the last year I have gotten into wildlife and bird photography.

Wonderful ! The set of colors present in the picture is great – from pink to violet. The clouds, reflecting in the water and enclosing the whole scene, but also making it all focus and come from the brightest part around the center, gives a mysterious tone to your shot. The bright linear section stretching across the middle just above the horizon is amazing – you can see patterns of all kinds, but the blinding light that seems to go away and about to leave the stage prevents you to see what really is over there, making the shot all the more mysterious and therefore making you remain where you are in awe and wonder – just like that guy on the rock to the right. Very good job.

It’s like a fairytale! So beautiful!!

For me it is not the perfect light and spectacular sunset or the fabulous photo. It is the moment. Every decade or so I come across a sunset that makes me take a breath and remember… remember that moment. What an incredible moment you captured Greg!

Excellent. What filters did you use?

I have been right there, not with that beautiful sunset, but just throwing the disc around in the shallow water. Great picture
Anurag
Really very beautiful Image. I Like It.

very good shot and well balanced. the silhouette on the side is great and the reflection just in the middle is very symmetrical. Great job
Pauline Jones
This is a pretty good reflection. I always think that the best ones are those that would look the same upside down. This almost does the job; well done.

Hi Greg,
Your statement portrays very much like how I got started shooting…wanting to bring back images exactly how I saw them.
Beautiful image…thanks for adding your beauty to my day!
Thomas Vignaud
Superb reflexion !
as the people on the right don’t have the same reflexion in the water than how he is in land, I wanted to know if you used two photos (one for sky, one for water) maybe bracketing?
thanks

Beautiful reflection on the water. I’d desaturate a little here and there. Great shot though.

Keen observation Thomas! Now that you point it out, I think you are right.

Thank to you all.
Thomas, I noticed that when I first processed the raw file, and it is something that has bothered me since. This is a single exposure with a 2-stop hard gnd…at the moment, I honestly can’t explain why the reflection of the people shows up different. But, this will bother me until I can find a logical reason…

Addition to previous post:
Thomas and Anurag, after closely inspecting the RAW image at high resolution and bringing out as much detail from the shadows as I could, the reason that the reflection of the people is different is that the people on the hill actually have a bluff behind them, casting the lower parts of their bodies into the silhouette. The reflection does not show this because of the distance/orientation the bluff is relative to my shooting height and location. I hope this makes sense and clears things up.
