Bromo At Sunrise

by Gary Arndt

Taken just after sunrise. The clouds were very low and hugging the floor of the caldera. I had to climb up the side of the crater before sunrise to get this.
Equipment: Nikon D200

Neat shot with the mist. Where on Earth is this?

It gives a sensation of expectation, awaiting for something to happen in silence. There are not much color definition but i guess like this there is more focus on the real subject.

THIS SHOT HAS AN ERIE FEEL TO IT BUT DEFINATELY CAPTURES A LAND BEFORE TIME. Nice work!

Multi year trip? Wow, I envy you. Great shot, too!

A trip around the world will probably never happen for me (No time, no money) so its great when people submit pictures of places that most of us will never see. Even with all mankind’s efforts to mess it up the Earth is still a wonderful place.

Nicely composed shot. The verticals and horizontals work well. The back/side light on the large cloud makes for a good focal point. Good timing has created a moody atmosphere. Congrats and enjoy your travels.

Lovely shot Gary. I’ve also been to Bromo (2001) but had a very different day – it’s an ever changing landscape. Certainly looks like it’s much more active than when I was there.

Fantastic shot. I once had the time to travel and I can just imagine the “feel” of this moment. What a lovely thing to share, thanks:)

My brother went to Java two years ago and he brought back pictures like this. I immediately loved this scene. You captured it very well.
