Wow! I love the ridges between the chunks of ice! Very poetic!
The lighthouse standing proud in the middle is wonderful. The hal around its top gives it nobility and makes us stand there in awe. The shading of the ice as you move your eyes up towards the rising sun is also great - it shifts from pale blue to bright orange. It’s just great to do that over and over again - moving your eyes up and down the ice and see its color change. Ag very good shot.
Along with the great colors, the foreground ice is very attractive. Nice job on the composition and dof.
I like the gradation of color from warm to cool as one moves from top to bottom. I also like the way the pattern formed by the breaking ice breaks up and fills the foreground space. The placement of the lighthouse and the pier is also very dynamic.
However, for a perfect shot I would have liked some more clouds to fill up the bland sky, (no one can do anything about it though). Nothing wrong with the image as it is. In fact it is really a very pleasing image.
The silhouette, the sun and the frozen water are what makes this shot wonderful. Its the balance that you managed to give with the details just showing slightly but not too much and reflection from the early suns rays. Good Job
the bloodred sun with the broken ice, the little tower, just magnificent!
Great Shot! Born and growing up in Sault Ste Marie, I witnessed these amazing sites on a regular basis.
Very nice photo! I really like lighthouses and the broken up ice is a very nice thing also..thanks for sharing
Nice shot; i like the broken ice.
If you can take such a lovely photo with just an ordinary digital camera, I am sure you can do wonders if you graduate to an SLR digital with a few lenses !
Thank you for all of your kind, encouraging comments. I would have liked the shot to have more clouds too, but there really weren’t any clouds that day - what you see, that looks like clouds on the horizion, is actually the steam collecting as it rises off the open water of the lake. It’s an honor to have my photos posted with amongst the high-quality images you find on this site. Other images I’ve had posted here…3/2/07, 3/14/07, 4/15/07.
Great photo, well exposed.I like the reflected light on the ice.
Bill, this is one of those rare sights that I’ll likely never see. Frozen water at dawn–and steaming, too! Beautiful work–I’ll be visiting your site for more.
The patterns in the ice are beautiful against the colorful sky.
I have a feeling the horizon is slightly slanted. I guess the picture could be rotated just about 0,5 a degree contra clockwise. I like the scene very much and the sun behind the lighthouse makes a very nice sunject.
You could not have asked for a more picturesque vista, and you captured it brilliantly! This is a lovely photograph.
Nice shot
