Valley of Ice Flowers

This is one of the coldest valleys in the Italian Dolomites. Sun never reaches the bottom in winter, and nature can have its fun here creating spectacular ice formations.

Sweet, they so look like frozen flowers. They sparkle even against the grey. Nice shot. EZ

  2. Andreea Teodorescu Says:

    Superb ice flowers !

  3. Anurag Says:

Very very unusual and beautiful ice formations and an elegantly composed shot.
I would have done some gardening or photoshop work to remove those twigs in the foreground.

  4. Mike Says:

Very unusual. The twigs in the foreground do not detract as it is nature. The only ice I ever see is in the freezer and frost on only a few mornings each winter.

  5. Reuben Chircop Reuben Chircop Says:

That is very interesting. Photographically speaking it has a good depth of field and even the way its close to lower crystals moving away through the valley.

  6. Buffy Says:

    COOL!!!

    Icey wonderland, beautifully composed.

  8. Ellie Ellie Says:

This is wonderful, something rarely seen, beautifully composed, delicate in nature, pristine and shot with know how. I give this a 10+! I looked for twigs in the foreground but must not be seeing them, I do not see any, nor any distracting lines.

Interesting and unusual subject. Those ice crystals are beautiful.I like the almost monochromatic look and the diversionary path of the boulders. Good depth of field. Well captured.

Kind of reminds me of a winter version of anemones like we have in the Oregon coast tide pools. Thank you for sharing such a breathtaking glimpse of winter in your area. It’s a beautiful image.
