by James Jordan
The new year dawns at the Sturgeon Bay Canal Light in Door County, Wisconsin. Hope yours is a good one.

“Hope yours is a good one.”
Yes it was ! Dawn is one of the most intersting things to take a picture of, because it has so many faces and can be so different throughout the world ! There are infinite versions of dawn, but yours is a very good one, especially because of all the tones of blue that are being chased away by the confuse red light.
The title too is great : it seems the little light house is actually waiting for it ! Waiting for dawn is one moment I cherish.
“Just an amateur photographer looking to capture the occassional shot of beauty.” => Well I think that’s one occasional shot of beauty ! Good catch !

That’s a lovely shot James….quite etherial. I suspect that Turner would have enjoyed painting that…..beautiful light.

I am in unison with the previous two comments. Dawn is a promising time of day and this shot shows all of that promise. I like it very much. The colours and sense of space are really calming and peaceful It is lovely. Congrats.

I wouldn’t call myself amateur with this shot in my portfolio. Excellent work

I like it and the atmosphere is really mysterious and gloomy. I do think I would have zoomed in a little more on the house as now it gets a little lost in all that blue.

Superb !

Delighted to see you back in Door County. I’ve been patiently waiting for more of your magic. This shot is just that – Magic (with a capatial “M”). As you might imagine, I’ve seen a lot of photos of the Sturgeon Bay Canal Light, but none come close to this. We should all be such “amateurs”.

Our new year is wet and windy; this is much better.

The soft, muted light is simply beautiful!
Happy New Year to you too!

I like the way the light house is in the left side of the photo as if it is looking into the rising of the sun. Which means it’s work is done and another safe night has come to an end. Great picture!

A nice shot with good tonal variation and lovely play of colors. The slow shutter has really made the water glassy and adds to the mood. I would have preffered a more panoramic view (joining two shots side by side)which would have enabled you to avoid cutting the oval bloom of the dawn light right in the center.

Really nice work here, it’s a beautiful vista you caught. You’re going in the right direction towards professional photography. You ‘brought me there’. Thank you..:)

A study in blues with some red. Lovely shot. It looks quite peaceful, almost etherial, to warm up the cold.
