Sleeping Swan

by Santeri Lohi

I have never been among so many birds in my life. Seagulls, swans, pigeons all around me. A swan was 2 inches away from biting me in the face as I was photographing. Great experience though, and well worth it.

Love the abstract side of this shot with the curves, patterns and colors. And as for the colors, it looks like there aren’t any, a sign of Nature’s great diversity in colors, so diverse that she can even show no colors at all !

Nice shot. Sounds like an amazing experience. So where on earth was it?

I like the pose of the swan and the overall composition. In my opinion you really underexposed the scene though. The swan should be white and not grayish.

Swans are very photogenic, this is a nice pose.

Thank you. Glad you like it.

Pieter: You’re right about the exposure, it could be a little bit more exposed so that the brightest area is white. Either way the photo focuses on the subtle differences in tone.

Taken in London’s Hyde Park, by the way.

There truly is beauty everywhere, and nature’s pallette is always a perspective I enjoy! Peaceful and wonderful…nice job, and I love knowing this was in Hyde Park, London…makes it even more interesting for me.

Though you are only 19 yet your composition shows great maturity. I really like the graceful curves in the picture.
