Settlers Wall
by Anthony McAvoy
Adelaide is one of the few cities in Australia that was not settled by convict labour.
Settled by Europeans in 1836, we live in the driest state on the driest continent on earth.
It is a time of drought and this ’settlers wall’, was made in those early times before modern day machinery.
It is a sign of the difficulties of new settlement and their tenacity to succeed.
Equipment: Canon 30D

It is a nice image. I like the colours and perspective. However it appears to have been far too over-sharpened and manipulated.

  2. Kinan Jarjous Says:

Multiple exposures? The colors look fantastic

  3. Terry Everson Terry Everson Says:

I like everything about this photo, (not just because I`m an Aussie) The composition, lighting and it is just so sharp.

  4. Jacob Maentz Jacob Maentz Says:

I really like your perspective and the light in this image. The colors are great! Really nice image.

  5. Pieter -sAner- van der Horst Pieter -sAner- van der Horst Says:

I like the dark sky a lot (I guess you used a filter)and the composition and POV are great too. I do agree with Ann, the picture is oversharpened and doesn’t look 100% real anymore. Especially the grass on the lefthandside suffered from the extreme sharpening.

  6. laurens laurens Says:

    history!
    like it :D
    nice shot~>the clouds, the colours!

  7. Sue Gagnon Says:

I really like it a lot, as well, but it does appear enhanced, no matter how ya slice it. I don’t know the ‘hows’ and/or the ‘whys’ of this, but the lasting effect is off, and seemingly surreal (was that the photographer’s intent?). The image remains interesting, especially with the historical and geographic content.

  8. Pauline Jones Pauline Jones Says:

I like the shot but it appears to be over saturated.

  9. Tom Brooklyn Says:

A bit heavy handed on the post processing I think. Might have been a bit more interesting to get a bit more of the wall on the right too.

  10. Anurag Anurag Says:

A dense cloud cover in the driest state of the driest continent!
I like the way the eye is drawn to the wooden pole, aided by the Wide angle perspective

  11. kml kml Says:

The light is gorgeous in this image - you did a great job capturing it!

  12. Andrew Andrew Says:

    GRAW2 =).

  13. Brianna Says:

It is amazing! the colour of the wall and the sky just make it seem so surreal! i think you did a great job!

  14. Gabriel Says:

Nice lines, rule of thirds, good lighting, nice shot altogether

  15. Alex Says:

Very nice! I think this would make for a great HDR image…
