Jenny Lake
by Matthew
Jenny Lake is located in front of the Grand Teton mountain range in Wyoming, USA. I used a polarising filter to reflect the subtle colours off the water. Unfortunately, the sun setting behind the mountains created bad expoure problems, so I used HDR to get a better tonal range. I made the effect more realistic by overlaying one of the middle exopsures onto the HDR image.

this is an amazing shot, the clash of the cloud colours to the mountains is a great effect and this image looks as if it is out of a fantasy!

  2. Darius Says:

Wow, everything about that pic is amazing. The water looks so thick and the snow on the mountains is very eye catching.

  3. David Constable Says:

fantastic shot absolutely superb, merry xmas

  4. Anurag Anurag Says:

    A superb Image.
The blurring of the water and the clouds caused by slow shutter/multiple exposure makes the mountain range come forward an gives a powerful 3D effect.
Well done. Also, an innovative use of the polariser to *increase* reflected light.
However while in photoshop you could have saturated the cyans and blues of the sky and the water for a more dramatic effect. right now the high values in the sky are overpowering the whites of the snow and giving a backlight look.

Well executed shot. Also thank you for the details. Happy Christmas.

The result is great, water seems like ice somehow…

HDR worked wonders on this one. I really, really like this picture. The sky, the water, the mountains and the stones in the water creates a picture perfect! Merry x-mas!

What a fantastic choice for Xmas day, the slight tickle of HDR has created a great, yet still realistic looking image (unlike some HDR stuff).. Have a great day, and well done!!

    Interesting effect.

Yes the water looks like ice because if the photo was taken recently, it is ice. I have fond memories of cross country-skiing across that lake when four feet of snow was on top of the ice. It is one of my favorite places on the planet. Thanks for reviving the memories.

Well composed, I like to see you using the rule of thirds.

  14. Andrew Andrew Says:

contrast between the sky behind the mountains and the mountains itself is amazing. It almost feels like clouds are moving. Good shot! Thanks.

  15. Aloria Browning Says:

    it almost looks photoshoped.
