I think you could have done a better job explaining this photo. It is however, interesting!!

What in the world are those pole like projections?!!
Dennis
I have to agree with “Anurag”‘s question! This is clearly an interesting photograph.
Victor Lim
I think they are chimneys of a factory.
Kinan Jarjous
I am getting the feeling this is smoke coming out from a factory
Andreea Teodorescu
Very interesting and unusual.
Pauline Jones
This looks like pollution from a tall chimney in an industrial area.
John
There would be a lot of industry in that part of Germany. Still a great photo though. Right place and right time!!
Andrew
Pretty from above. Is not as pretty after you land. I’ve been in Europe for 9 days in Novemeber and there was almost no time when sun could shine through the clouds.
Pieter -sAner- van der Horst
I really like the idea and the photo itself is very unsual. I do think the exposure was tricky and the lefthandside of both the industry clouds and the top of the horizon are burnt because of the tricky exposure. Good effort though! Merry x-mas!
Ottoman
There was an incredible temperature inversion going on at the time throughout Central Europe. Very cold temps at ground level, warmer temps just above above. The village I live in, was -7 grad, while the ski fields above were 0 grad. Clearly that had an effect on this pic. But I still want to know what those poles are. Nice photo!

Very special view, I really like that. The picture shows the Großkrotzenburg power plant. The poles are the smokestack chimneys, the steam comes out of the two cooling towers. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grosskrotzenburg_power_station
Renee
So what are those poles? hmm this picture gets you thinking!
Sean
I think the ‘Poles’ are really smoke stacks. They are just not in use. The two that are in use are below the fog layer so the diameter is hidden. The smoke billows out as it leaves the stacks hiding the actual small size.
Jimmy Roussel
Is this ground fog around a electrical power plant? Every time I pass a power plant I see this smog.
Gil
I guess the poles are chimneys from some industry. The “smoke” comes from two cooling towers.
Great photo.
Mike
Could be deceptive… not necessarily pollutants. May be steam…

Awesome shot, love the way it almost touches the wing

pay attention people… ITS NOT SMOKE. ITS STEAM. the big clouds coming from power plants. ITS STEAM.
Angus
John doe and Ottoman got it right. The heat inversion has created low lying cloud and the hot moist air (steam) from the power plant is condensing in the cold air making the tall cloud. Probably fairly harmless to the environment, pretty though.
Dave
Are you all that naive that you believe power plants and industry only exhaust harmless steam into the atmosphere. I agree the steam is most likely what is visible but the toxins contained within the steam is what is the real cause for concern here.
Aurun
A chimney so tall that it could be seen above the cloud? Is that possible?!
May I know what is the trick here?
yasmin
very good shot, but it looks a little too random, with the different things in the photo, the view is amazing and the hint of the airplane wing is pretty cool..well done!
Su
Unusual point of view but thinks its wonderful.

Cool scene from above
Renee
Great shot!

This shot has certainly provoked a lot of comments.
