Contrast

by Tad Bowman

This photograph was taken in the San Juans of Colorado. I was drawn to the lines of this scence (aspen boles and the rocks in the ridge) as well as the brilliant fall color of the aspens. I took about 70 shots of this scene over an hour and a half timespan to try to capture the light the way I wanted on the aspen strand and the light being muted on the ridge in the background.
Equipment: Canon EOS 1dsMII, 70-200 mm lens, tripod

Cool. Color vs gray. Light/Leafy/flexible vs. hard rock.

That is one spectacular image! The slant of the trees against the straightness of the rocks is really something.

Now this is nice contrast. Love the lines, trees continue the lines of the rocks. Very interesting shot. Looks quite unreal though, like it has been edited with Photoshop. If its original its great the moment captured.

Congrats Tad on this magnificent photo.

There is so much drama and contrast in this photo: Yellow agains black, rocks against trees, Illumination against dark shadowed cliffs. This image is so powerful and interesting at the same time.

Bravo !

Well worth the time and effort to capture this photo.

Thanks everyone for the kind feedback. Andrew, very little was done in photoshop with this image (curves and slight boost in saturation out of RAW). This is how the image looked. The sun was filtering through the clouds illuminating various parts of the scene. Thanks again.

Gorgeous! It was certainly worth your time. Comes across as a painting and beautiful capture of lines, light and shadows.
