August 1st, 2007 at 2:16 amI was thinking the same thing about the DOF. It is framed perfectly with that in mind. The D80 is a great piece of technology. That coupled with a great eye of this photographer makes for a winning shot. I would like to know what settings were used and if a tripod was part of the equation.

August 1st, 2007 at 6:40 amThis really is a very sharp shot. Good DOF and POV, nice colors. Composition-wise I think I would have probably off-centered the butterfly a little bit more. However; it’s a fantastic macroshot. What lens did you use?

My only suggestion - the specular highlights on the flowers and the bright color of the flowers are causing the secondry subject (flowers) to compete with the butterfly. Toning them down postprocessing and a vigenneting mask for the corners should do a world of good

August 1st, 2007 at 10:44 amI have been taking a lot of butterflies the last few days. In my area Red dmirals are abundant at the moment. It can be hard to get a good shot as they rarelly stay still and never pose for you. Well done.

August 1st, 2007 at 7:09 pmA fine image love the colours and the good use of selective DOF. As has been said the flowers are competing for my eye with the main subject toning them down or cropping the image for rule of thirds would increase it’s impact…
