White-Tailed Sea Eagle Fishing

by Filipe Silva

I spend one week in Norway working with sea-eagles. My main target was take some pictures with sea-eagles in action fishing but not the usual pictures with the sea-eagles fishing I want to take something special, something different. In early may we have lots of hours with sun light for work and very good light in Norway so I worked since sunrise till sunset (10pm). For taking this kind of pictures we use a boat and visit different places in the middle of the Norwegian fiords tying to find sea eagles in fly or fishing. One day I was lucky to find a sea-eagle fishing at sunset so I choose use my Canon 1dMKIIN instead of the my Canon 5D because of the number of frames per second and try to capture one action picture with the sea eagle and the light of sunset behind. And the picture is that: the subject, light, and the moment. Is was a very special day and this moment is stored in a special place in my mind!
Equipment: Canon 1dMKIIN

This portuguese nature photographer was born in 1974. His great passion for nature has always made part of his life and, as a teenager, he used to spent a lot of time around wildlife image books. One day, after purchasing his first camera, he decided to portray special moments while he began travelling around the world in search for wildlife and landscape scenarios. The results of his adventures have been well kept in his photos, expressing the emotion of being in the right place at the right time. Photography allowed him to truly explore the world and see everything differently.

Really, Really top notch. Every thing is perfect. The moment, the juxtaposition of the eagle behind the sun, the fish behind the sun’s reflection, the framing by rule of thirds, the splash on the water, and the lines formed by the clouds and the water everything is working so well. Its like an orchestra. We are lucky to behold this lovely work of your art Filipe!!

This is just great. My friend showed me this site yesterday and I so love all the pictures.

Great Picture Filipe. I know these kind of “shots” require patience. I am glad you had enough of it to bring us this piece of art.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
you can even see a speck of light shining through the eagle’s beak… besides, the “whole” there are so many wonderful details one can observe. I ditto Shelton’s compliment… thanks for your patience.
