Wow! A brilliant silhouette you got there John. Dark silhouettes and light backgrounds go great with each other. The sky looks interesting as well as the stag and the tree. Great photo. Well done!

Very good shot John.. Pl clarify a few points. You said it is after dark. If so then what is the shutter and ISO and the aperture, because as can be seen from the shot, the shutter cannot be very slow, and what is in the background? moonlight?
A really wonderful composition.

Great shot! The silhouette is crisp – the entire animal is visible and disconnected from the tree.

Great stuff!!

Hi everybody
Thanks for the comments about this image it’s a bit of an honour to win the Photo of the day competition, thanks again

Hi Anurag

The sun has just sunk below the hill where the stag is standing but is reflecting enough light to give the sky a nice glow and maintain a fast enough shutter speed 1/250sec at F5.6 with an iso of 800 the lens was a Nikon 300mm F4 so I suppose it should be as darkness descends :-) )

Action after dark is very hard to get; it should be blurred or grainy but it isn’t. Perfect shot.

Eli Shams says Wow, perfect shot, the one all photographers dream of. I say DITTO. Technical perfection plus an empathy for your subject is the feeling I perceive from this image. This is outstanding photography John. 100 percent plus.
