Wombat
by Matt B-L
As with much of Tasmania's wildlife, Wombats are nocturnal, naturally creating a problem for photography. Using some local knowledge to find a suitable location for wombats, my brother and I waited for one to start foraging in some open grassland during the late evening. Luckily this one appeared from the bushes before the conditions got too dark, and I managed to crawl into a good position to achieve this portrait.

You’ve captured such expression! This is the closest I’ll ever get to a wombat–thanks for the great photo. (By the way, there’s a children’s book titled Diary of a Wombat…a really clever way to teach kids about the life of a wombat.)
