European Kingfisher

This small and coloured bird is one of my favourite birds. The kingfisher live near water hunt small fish by diving and beat their prey to death before eat it.

I was born in Oviedo (Spain), in 1971. I studied Biology at the Oviedo University. I worked during many years in brown bears (Ursus arctos), wolf (Canis lupus signatus) and red fox (Vulpes vulpes) research projects.
Now I'm freelance wildlife photographer since 1994, especialized in wildlife and landscapes, but also travel and other reports.

Great photo, the background is properly done.
I used to watch these birds in Ukraine, in small Samara river, tributary of Dnieper. When they sit in the trees over the river you can hardly notice them as their brests are brown as the tree’s cortex. (They turn to you by their brests). In profile, like in this picture they are better seen. And they are extremely bright blue when flying over the water!

These are a rare sight in the UK, very quick to flight so well done.
