Mt Etna, one of the most active volcanoes in the world is in action again. “Mongibello” the mountain of the mountains as it is called in Italian is situated on the east coast of Sicily, close to Catania. It is the largest active volcano in Europe, currently standing about 3,350 m (10,991 ft). From the South East Crater ash is emitted several hundered meters in the sky. The picture was taken on the 3rd of december 2006 during a hike to the summit in approximately 3000m above sea level.

I’m 29 years old live in Stuttgart in the southern part of Germany and are doing my Phd thesis in Biochemistry. I like to fotograph and also filming and are interested in geology, meteorology and astronomy. Therefore I can combine two of my hobbies by filming/fotographing volcanoes. Most of my pictures are taken during my holidays when a try to travel to the volcanoes of the world.
