Fire Canoe
by Peter Bowers
This shot was taken in the early morning mist at my cabin on Basshaunt Lake, Ontario, Canada. My friend Eric is paddling, and I was in another canoe. This style of paddling is obviously only done in the calmest of conditions.
Equipment: Nikon D70, 80-200mm f2.8 lens

I'm an amateur, I mostly like to take pictures outside, doing the things that I love to do, like canoeing, or skiing.

You call yourself an “amateur,” Peter, but your photos are incredibly beautiful. This one makes me stare. You were at the right place at the right minute, for sure. Congratulations!

I saw this photo the day it first showed here on Earth Shots and was so terribly impressed with it then…even more so now. This is an extremely memorable photograph with its colours, mist and very fine subject. And somehow so perfectly Canadian with that canoe. It’s Muskoka, Haliburton, the French River and all points north in Ontario in one stunning photo and truly catches the flavour of this province. Very well done indeed Peter.
