On Stromboli you can experience almost permanently an amazing spectacel!
Stromboli is a small island in the Tyrrhenian Sea, containing one of the most active volcanoes of the world. It is one of the Aeolian Islands, a volcanic archipelago north of Sicily. Stromboli stands approximately 918 m high above sea level. There are two craters at the summit with 6 active vents. Stromboli is remarkable because of the length of time for which it has been in almost continuous eruption. For at least the last 2,000 years, the same pattern of eruption has been maintained, in which explosions occur at the summit craters at intervals of minutes to hours, right now approximately 15 Eruptions per hour. This type of very mild explosive eruption is known as Strombolian activity when observed at other volcanoes. Eruptions from the summit craters typically result in few second-lasting mild energetic burst emitting ash, incandescent lava fragments and lithic blocks up to few hundred meter high.

I’m 29 years old live in Stuttgart in the southern part of Germany and are doing my Phd thesis in Biochemistry. I like to fotograph and also filming and are interested in geology, meteorology and astronomy. Therefore I can combine two of my hobbies by filming/fotographing volcanoes. Most of my pictures are taken during my holidays when a try to travel to the volcanoes of the world.

THAT IS ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL. AN SO IS THE CITY YOU ARE FROM. I SPENT 37 MONTHS IN GERMANY AN STUTTGART IS A VERY BEAUTIFUL CITY WITH A LOT OF HISTORY IN IT. AN A LOT OF BEAUTIFUL SCENERY ALSO. I WORKED THERE AN I WAS IN THE ARMY STATIONED AT KARLSRUHE. GARY T.

i live near stromboli but i never take a photo of the vulcano like this……

Wow! A very dynamic photo. I love the darkness mixed in with the bright shots coming out of the volcano, it suits the photo. To me this doesn’t seem like an eruption but rather a huge sparkler being lit. Some beautiful activity you got there Thomas. Great photo. Well done!
